Advanced Valve & Instrument Partners with Georgia Southern Engineering Students to Improve Warehouse Efficiency

At Advanced Valve & Instrument, we’re always looking for ways to work smarter, improve efficiency, and deliver the highest level of quality to our customers. This past semester, we had the opportunity to do just that through an exciting partnership with the Mechanical Engineering Department at Georgia Southern University.

The semester-long project challenged a team of engineering students to solve a real-world operational issue within our warehouse. Specifically, we asked them to help streamline the process of setting and calibrating regulators before they are shipped to customers.

As a distributor, we receive large volumes of regulator orders that must be manually adjusted and calibrated before shipment. Before collaborating with the students, this process required significant physical effort, precision, and hands-on experience to properly set each unit. While effective, the manual approach limited efficiency and introduced potential variability between regulators due to human error.

Our goal was simple: create a solution that would allow us to work smarter while ensuring every regulator is calibrated consistently and accurately.

With a project budget of just $1,500, the engineering team successfully designed and built a solution that will help streamline this important warehouse process. Their innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills resulted in a regulator stand that will improve efficiency, reduce physical strain, and help maintain consistency across every regulator we prepare for our customers.

Projects like this highlight the value of collaboration between industry and higher education. Not only did the students gain hands-on experience solving a real business challenge, but Advanced Valve & Instrument gained a practical solution that will make a lasting impact on our operations.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the Georgia Southern engineering students who dedicated their time and talents to this project, as well as our Operations & Field Specialist, Jared Smith, who worked closely with the team throughout the semester and served as the primary point of contact.

We’re incredibly proud of what was accomplished and grateful for the opportunity to partner with the next generation of engineers.
